Sadie Williams – a former teen mom and frontwoman of an ambient post rock band called Midnight Musings, has a name that isn’t hers and three months until she’s completely broke. As a girl, she was pegged for a slacker and a drama queen. As a traumatized and love obsessed early 20’s something, she followed her heart at the expense of herself and everyone else. What awaited her was a seriously cool and disheartening adventure. It wasn’t long before she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Now a failed freelancer (failed everything) in her 30’s, Sadie leaves it all behind: the comfort of familiarity and the life she betted on. Sabotaged by bad decisions that’s left her right where she started and haunted by abuse and her own diagnosis – Sadie makes a vow to break the cycle for her preteen son, Logan, and get her life back once and for all.

Maybe this was a dumb idea. As I’m about to give up, the family walks away and Pastor Mark turns to me. “Sadie! How are you?”
Too late now. I step closer and force a smile. “I’m doing okay.”
“And Logan?”
“He’s good.”
“That’s great! How can I help you?”
I hesitate. Did I really want to do this? It isn’t something I actually planned or gave much thought to. In fact, the thought hadn’t come to mind until 45 minutes ago—when I prayed during the music. But now that I’ve had the thought, I can’t seem to shake it. Just ask, Sadie. The worst he can say is no. “Actually, I was wondering—” It hits me. The last time I asked something like this, my life drastically changed. What will happen now? “I was wondering,” I say again. “If you could use another member on the worship team? I sing…and play guitar.”
I guess time will tell.
As soon as I get home, I know where to go. It’s calling me. I walk down the hall and stop. It’s been untouched and forgotten for the last two years. There’s dust on the body, the waist and the headstock. I run my finger over the front and catch some on my finger. It’s the only one I have left. I used to have three: a cheap acoustic I left with my mother, a Yamaha acoustic-electric, and a Fender Stratocaster. This is the Yamaha, the guitar I got from Josh when we eloped. It’ll do for now. I grab it off the wall and pull the strap over my shoulder, then I run my fingers over the strings.
It doesn’t feel any different, but then I remember: “I can’t think of anything to play to that,” he’d said. “Why don’t you try something else? Something more original? Or technical?” “You need to go over your scales.” “Maybe you should get back into lessons. It could improve your technique.” “I’ll just come up with something and play it myself.” “The guitar’s the most important part. It has to be perfect.”
No wonder. No wonder I stopped playing. It stopped being fun. I shake away the memories, tune the guitar and begin to play anyway. And God. It feels like coming home.

Them vs. Her is a Long Island based alt-emo band consisting of Sarah Rose (vocals + bass), Howie Kunzinger (rhythm guitar), Matt Edell (lead guitar) and Anthony Corso (drums). Their concept album Swing Sets & Handguns tells a distinct lucid story of a young couple plagued by mental illness and addiction. It’s available on all major streaming platforms. In 2025, the band collaborated with Rose’s mental health platform, BPD Beautiful, and created the Original Soundtrack for Sadie’s Favorite—a novel written by Rose about BPD recovery, trauma and life after abuse. Them vs. Her is an alt-emo band from Long Island, NY that started as an acoustic duo in 2012 – founded by Sarah Rose (vocals) and Tim Stark (rhythm guitar). The duo played with a handful of local musicians including Anthony Corso (drums) and Matt Edell (lead guitar) from 2014-2016.
In 2016, they teamed up with producer Anthony Lopardo at Westfall Recording Company to create their first full-length concept album, Swing Sets & Handguns. The short story behind the album tells a distinct lucid story of a young couple plagued by mental illness and addiction. “Conceptually, Them vs. Her hit the nail on the head when it came to deciphering a story through song,” said music blogger, Sunny Menagerie, at Golden Mixtape. Despite positive feedback, the band came to a halt shortly after.
In 2022, the original duo released Lovers & Strangers, a stripped-down acoustic album featuring 12 raw tracks originally written for a second full-band release. It was soft-launched with zero fanfare, mostly for the people still listening.
In 2024, Them vs. Her was brought back together by Rose (vocals + bass), Corso (drums) and Edell (lead guitar). They brought Howie Kunzinger on as their new rhythm guitarist.
In 2025, the band collaborated with Rose’s mental health platform, BPD Beautiful, and created the Original Soundtrack for Sadie’s Favorite—a novel written by Rose about BPD recovery, trauma and life after abuse. The soundtrack features ambient instrumentals, gritty full-band arrangements, and voice clips that tie into the book’s emotional arc. The novel and soundtrack will be released through BPD Beautiful on October 22, 2025.

BPD Beautiful is a mental health platform and online community dedicated to providing compassionate, practical and stigma free resources for those affected by Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)—including both individuals with the diagnosis and their loved ones. The platform currently has over 18K followers and subscribers.
Founded by Sarah Rose in late 2019, BPD Beautiful began as a deeply personal blog chronicling her own recovery journey. What started as a single voice advocating for hope has since grown into a trusted mental health resource for thousands seeking real, actionable guidance on navigating life with BPD.
BPD Beautiful stands out for its “no toxic positivity, no depressing memes” approach. Instead, the platform focuses on offering practical tips and honest stories to promote healing, self-awareness, and sustainable recovery.
At least 70% of people with BPD will attempt suicide at least once in their lifetime. Roughly 10% of those people will die by suicide. For a time, BPD was thought to be untreatable. But that’s not the case.
BPD Beautiful wants their content to spread awareness, inspire others to seek treatment and help people get themselves into remission. Their main mission is to significantly reduce the number of deaths by suicide among those living with BPD.
When founder Sarah Rose set out to grow BPD Beautiful, she did so with a clear purpose: to hire from within the community. This practice ensures the team is comprised of mental-health advocates with lived experience of BPD and trauma (or a close connection to it), ensuring authenticity in every resource they produce.
